Youtube, IReport, Vlogs, and Webshows
The power of videos on Youtube has opened many doors for today’s social media and news media. CNN IReport has taken the news world by storm, providing viewers of the news channel with eye-opening media from those who witness major news events live and in person.

Vlogging is quickly becoming the best way for people to share their experiences over the internet. Video diaries are widely used by college students doing social experiments, as well as adult politicians, journalist, and other everyday people. One of the best known examples of an avid video blogger is the UK’s Charlie McDonell, known to fellow youtubers as ‘charlieissocoollike”. Charlie gives his viewers an excellent look into the mind of a teenage male with sharp wit and a knack for music.

Web shows are different from vlogs, in that web shows are usually comedy-based, geared toward an audience for entertainment, not information. Examples of web show success can be found in Lucas Cruicshink, also known as Youtube’s internet personality “Fred”, and Neil Cicierega, the infamous mind behind smash internet hit "Potter Puppet Pals", a mini-series puppet show based off of the Harry Potter series.

Old School and New School Combined

We’re all used to watching the six o’ clock local news every evening and catching the days events in our isolated areas, but now Youtube and this generation’s creative minds have added a new twist. "Auto-Tune the News" was created by The Gregory Brothers as a way to parody American political videos, tampering with the footage and adding a back beat to make it appear that the politician on screen was singing. However, in late 2010, the Gregory Brother’s released “The Bed Intruder Song”, a parody of a news story from Huntsville, Alabama, was “sung” by Antoine Dodson, brother of would-be victim Kelly Dodson. Kelly avoided attack and near rape when the assailant ran away, but it was her brother’s rant in the news interview that got the Gregory Brother's attention. The song made it to #80 on the Billboard Top 100, and was released on iTunes.
